Heckmondwike Grammar School undertook a new build project to expand and modernise its facilities, ensuring a high-performance and durable roofing solution was installed to support long-term efficiency and safety. A key requirement was the integration of renewable energy systems and safe access for future maintenance.

Challenge

The client required a warm roof system that offered robust waterproofing performance, long-term reliability, and compatibility with photovoltaic technology. The roof also needed to accommodate fall protection systems for ongoing maintenance while achieving high thermal performance and environmental standards in line with current Building Regulations.

Solution

Bauder was specified to supply and install its Bauder Total Roof System, a fully integrated cut to fall warm roof system with a 25-year Design, workmanship and product guarantee. The system features Reinforced Bitumen Membranes engineered to deliver maximum waterproofing integrity and longevity.

Roofing System Specification

Structural Deck:

Profiled metal deck, providing strength, load distribution, and an ideal substrate for warm roof application.

Waterproofing System:

BauderTEC KSD FBS – Self-adhesive air and vapour control layer ensuring airtightness and moisture resistance.
BauderPIR FA-G16 Tapered Insulation – Thermally efficient PIR insulation, tapered to enhance drainage and meet U-value requirements.
BauderTEC KSA DUO Underlayer – Self-adhesive bituminous underlayer, providing secondary waterproofing and fire resistance.
BauderK5K Capping Sheet – Torch-applied SBS-modified bitumen membrane with high UV resistance, forming the primary waterproofing layer.

Additional System Components:

BauderSOLAR F XL PV System – Lightweight, non-penetrative photovoltaic solution fully compatible with the K5K capping sheet, enabling renewable energy generation directly from the roofing system.
SFS SORTER 2 Mansafe System – Permanently installed fall protection system, allowing safe access for rooftop maintenance.
Bauder Thermally Efficient Access Roof Hatch – Provides secure, insulated access to the roof, minimising heat loss.
